Adult ADHD

An evaluation thorough enough to trust the answer.

Adult ADHD is commonly missed, and it is also commonly assumed. Both mistakes are costly. A proper assessment looks at your history from childhood forward, how symptoms show up now, and what else could explain them.

The Assessment

How the evaluation is done

01

History, from the beginning

ADHD begins in childhood, so the evaluation looks back as well as at the present — school reports, patterns at work, what family remember.

02

How it shows up now

Attention, focus, organisation, follow-through, restlessness and impulsivity, and specifically how they affect work, relationships and routines.

03

What else it could be

Sleep disorders, anxiety, depression, thyroid problems and substance use can all mimic ADHD. Ruling them in or out is part of getting the answer right.

How It Actually Shows Up

Adult ADHD rarely looks like a hyperactive child

None of these confirms ADHD on its own. Nearly everyone has some of them some of the time — what matters clinically is the pattern, how long it has been there, and how much it costs you.

After the Diagnosis

Management is more than a prescription

If ADHD is diagnosed, the plan is built around your situation and reviewed over time. Where medication is appropriate, it is monitored for effect and side effects like any other treatment. Where it is not, or where you would rather not, there are other things worth doing — and either way you should leave understanding what was found and why.

Common Questions

What people want to know

Yes. Many adults were never assessed as children, particularly those who did well academically or whose symptoms were read as personality. The diagnosis still requires evidence that symptoms were present early in life.

Any prescribing decision is made individually, after a full evaluation, and in line with clinical guidelines and state requirements. Medication is one option among several and is never the automatic outcome of an assessment.

Yes. Adults previously diagnosed often need ongoing oversight, and sometimes a fresh look at whether the current plan still fits the way you live now.

That is a useful result, not a wasted appointment. Anxiety, depression, sleep problems and other conditions produce similar symptoms and have their own effective treatments.

Bring anything you already have — old report cards, previous evaluations, rating scales from another clinician. Nothing is required in advance to book the appointment.
